Kenya, Orphanage -Computer training, sports & furniture build

In an orphanage outside of Nairobi, Connie joined a team from KOP to build beds and desks for children out of one of the world's largest slum, Kiberia. She also taught computer literacy, helped organized cultural field trips, coached & played soccer, donated shoes and provided regular meals for the 120 children.

Dominican Republic - Teaching, sports, medical & building houses

In the Dominican Republic Connie organized 75-90 volunteers from the Yale Alumni Service Corps to work in remote areas and towns to help build houses, soccer goals and playgrounds deliver medical care, chloera prevention, teach in the schools, coach sports and consult on business entrepreneurship.

Nicaragua - Medical, teaching, public health & construction

Connie's volunteer work in Nicaragua, independently & as a leader with YASC, covered providing medical care, education, public health lessons and building schools, bridges, and houses in various villages. This commitment also extended to establishing a library and distributing critical water filters.

South Africa - Tutoring & lunch program in the schools

In the townships outside of Cape Town, Connie worked at Vissershok school tutoring the children in math and English as well as reading and art. She and the other IVHQ volunteers also joined the team to distribute food during the free lunch program to some amazing children.

Guatamala - Building onto an Alzheimer Hospital

Connie worked with a local builder through IVHQ in Antiqua to build an addition to a hospital for Alzheimer patients. The construction was a great challenge since it had to occur while the hospital was still functioning but it was so rewarding to assist such a vulnerable population.

Trohilo,Nicaragua Women's School Build & Girls Training

We are planning a program to build a school gym and assembly building in a remote village by using local women trained in welding, concrete and rebar. We will also offer introduction to the trades through lessons for the school girls so they become familiar with using tools and doing improvements themselves.

Wilmington, NC Women's Training & Information Event

In collaboration with local colleges, funding entities, and city services, we would like to hold an information event to link potential trainees, with mentors, training programs and scholarships for trade skill and certification courses.

Appalachia Skills Training & Information Event

Up in the mountains of North Carolina we will be hosting a Think Tank retreat to determine the best approaches for the Foundation to serve women and girls globally. We also plan on recruiting young women from the area to gain confidence through outdoor adventures including kayaking, hiking & wildlife as well as exposure to tools and construction.

Charlotte, NC Collaboration Event

We are planning to support events and collaborative efforts with other women empowerment groups working to train women in the construction industry, award scholarships to enroll women in college training courses, promote certificate and degree completion.  

Accra, Ghana Women's Build Project & Girls Training

In Acca we hope to work with a ground partner to empower women and girls to get training in trade skills to potentially gain jobs in green construction. Various countries in Africa are targeting this training in the construction industry to provide more financially secure work for women.
